Bach Festival of Winter Park
1000 Holt Avenue, Winter Park, FL 32789
About this happenin
Rollins College has hosted this festival since 1935, when a Winter Park arts patron marked Bach's 250th birthday with a weekend of choral music, and it has run every winter since, making it the third-oldest continuously operating Bach festival in the country. Most performances sit inside Knowles Memorial Chapel, the Mediterranean Revival sanctuary Ralph Adams Cram counted as his favorite of the churches he designed. A volunteer choir of more than 180 singers and a professional orchestra of about 50 fill it under artistic director John V. Sinclair, and the February run spreads over several weekends of organ recitals, vocal-ensemble evenings, chamber programs and large choral works. Know before you go: park in the Rollins Truist garage at 150 E. Lyman Avenue, where a golf cart shuttle picks up from the southeast corner beginning one hour before each campus performance. Accessible parking includes a lot at Chase Avenue off Holt Avenue. The National Oratorio Competition finals concert is free and open to the public, with seats reserved in advance.
