African drumming and dance open the night, then local jazz bands play until 10 p.m. at Shady Park, 721 W. New England Ave., in Winter Park's Hannibal Square. A Night Under the Stars: Jazz & Jubilee is the Juneteenth celebration The Equity Council Corp. holds there each June, co-presented by the City of Winter Park. The council is a Black-owned nonprofit that has worked with Hannibal Square residents since 2018. The SOKO Marketplace brings Black-owned vendors selling cultural wear and handmade jewelry to the lawn. Food and drinks are sold on site, and the bar's proceeds go to the council's December Kwanzaa celebration. Things start at 5 p.m. Admission is a free RSVP through Eventbrite, and it has sold out before. Seating is limited; anyone arriving after 5 should bring a stadium chair or blanket. The park doesn't allow personal tents, rolling coolers or outside alcohol. It goes ahead rain or shine, and if the weather turns it moves indoors to the Winter Park Community Center.
