Village Halloween Parade
Sixth Avenue from Canal Street to West 15th Street, New York, NY 10014
About this happenin
Anyone in costume can march in the Village Halloween Parade, which goes up Sixth Avenue in Greenwich Village from King Street to West 15th Street on Halloween night. Ralph Lee, a mask maker and puppeteer, started it in 1973 as a walk around his own neighborhood for his children and their friends. Typically 50,000 to 60,000 people take up the invitation, alongside hundreds of giant puppets and more than 50 bands. Marchers gather at Canal Street and Sixth Avenue between 6:30 and 9 p.m. and are let onto the route in groups. The parade starts at 7 and ends around 11. Watching is free from either side of the avenue, and the crowd is thickest between Bleecker and 14th Street. No alcohol is allowed in the line.
