Three Kings Day Parade
1230 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10029
About this happenin
El Museo del Barrio's Three Kings Day Parade fills the streets of East Harlem on January 6, whatever day of the week it lands on. In recent years it has started at 106th Street and Park Avenue, gone east to Third Avenue, turned north and finished at 115th Street and Park. The kings appear as 14-foot puppets. Live camels and floats come through with the music, and thousands of schoolchildren and neighbors march, many of them in paper crowns the museum encourages them to make. El Museo has put the celebration on for nearly 50 years, and it draws on the Taino, African and European roots of the holiday. Watching costs nothing, and gallery admission at the museum on Fifth Avenue is free that day.
