About this happenin
Tribute in Light is a pair of light beams that rise from Lower Manhattan from dusk to dawn on the night of September 11. It is built on the roof of the Battery Parking Garage, just south of the 9/11 Memorial. Eighty-eight 7,000-watt xenon lamps are set into two 48-foot squares that echo the shape and orientation of the Twin Towers. The beams climb up to four miles into the sky, and the installation can be seen from as far as 60 miles around Lower Manhattan. It was first lit six months after the attacks and has been lit every year since. On the same night, buildings across the city and beyond light up in blue.
