Fleet Week New York
Pier 86, W 46th St and 12th Ave, New York, NY 10036
About this happenin
Memorial Day weekend on Pier 86 belongs to the military. For Fleet Week the Intrepid Museum, on the Hudson at West 46th Street, gives its pier over to displays and demonstrations by the Marine Corps, the Coast Guard and other branches and agencies, with live music through the weekend. In past years the Marines have let visitors try on their gear and see tactical vehicles up close. Teams from the military branches and the city's police and fire departments have faced off in a tug of war on the pier. The Intrepid has said that everything on the pier is free to the public. The weekend closes on Monday with the museum's annual Memorial Day ceremony. Fleet Week itself starts earlier in the week, when the Navy's Parade of Ships sails up the Hudson.
