Runners in the TCS New York City Marathon start at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island, cross all five boroughs and finish in Central Park on the first Sunday in November. Watching costs nothing. New York Road Runners points fans to Fourth Avenue in Brooklyn just off the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, First Avenue in Manhattan around miles 16 to 18, East Harlem, and Fifth Avenue in the 90s before the runners turn into the park. Spectators are not allowed on any of the bridges. At the finish, standing room inside the park runs from Columbus Circle to about 500 feet before the line, with screened entrances and no chairs. Grandstand seats at the end need tickets. The five-borough route was first run on October 24, 1976.
