About this happenin
Every night of Hanukkah, the Lubavitch Youth Organization lights a menorah more than 30 feet tall in Grand Army Plaza, on the east side of Fifth Avenue at 59th Street. The Plaza Hotel faces it across the avenue, at the southeast corner of Central Park. Rabbis and guests ride a lift to the top to light it. One more light goes on each evening until all eight burn on the last night. Most lightings come soon after sundown, but the Friday one is early, before the Sabbath begins, and the Saturday one waits until it ends. Brooklyn has a giant menorah of its own at its Grand Army Plaza, by Prospect Park, run by a different group.
