About this happenin
Shipping containers become small galleries on Emily Warren Roebling Plaza in Brooklyn Bridge Park for about two weeks a year, with photographs hung inside them and on freestanding panels between them. This is the hub of Photoville, a free photography festival run by United Photo Industries, a Brooklyn nonprofit. The festival calls itself a June event, though it has opened as early as mid May. It begins with a free community weekend at the park. More than 80 exhibitions go up across the five boroughs, in parks and public spaces as well as on the plaza, and workshops and artist talks run alongside. Many of the installations out in the boroughs stay on view for months after the festival closes.
More in May: 10 other New York events.
