Madison Avenue between 38th and 27th Streets, New York, NY 10016
About this happenin
Madison Avenue turns into a Filipino street fair on the first Sunday of June, the day the Philippine Independence Day Council puts its parade on between 38th and 27th Streets. Floats and dance groups doing traditional and contemporary Filipino dances come down the avenue, and the organiser counts tens of thousands of people along the route. The fair runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Go hungry. The vendor map has lechon, sisig, bibingka and halo-halo on it. The council, a New York not-for-profit incorporated in 2002, calls the day one of the largest Philippine independence celebrations outside the Philippines.
