About this happenin
About 300 places in all five boroughs open their doors for Open House New York Weekend, one weekend each October of behind-the-scenes tours and special activities. You might stand in a new building that is changing the skyline, a performance space, a manufacturing workshop, a private collection, a park or one of the facilities that keep the city running. Most sites are free, and you can just show up. Some need tickets for space or security reasons. In recent years the full lineup has gone public in late September and those tickets have come out in early October, so that is the stretch to pick your sites. About 1,000 volunteers help run the weekend for some 50,000 visitors.
More in October: 12 other New York events.
