Lionel trains run on a 34-foot, two-level layout every holiday season in the New York Transit Museum's gallery at Grand Central Terminal. Metro-North and vintage subway sets share the track with the Polar Express, and the line runs from a miniature Grand Central past model New York landmarks to a snowy North Pole. Admission is free. The gallery is in the Shuttle Passage off the Main Concourse, next to the Station Master's Office, and it stays open until 7:30 p.m. on weekdays and 6 p.m. on weekends. It is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidents' Day. Strollers are not allowed in the gallery, so leave yours at home.
