Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
Central Park West at West 77th Street, New York, NY 10024
About this happenin
The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade covers 2.5 miles of Manhattan on Thanksgiving morning, from the Upper West Side to Herald Square. Macy's has put it on since 1924 and skipped only 1942 to 1944, and it calls the parade its annual gift to the nation. The NYPD manages the route, with public viewing areas on the west side of Central Park West, the south side of Central Park South and along Sixth Avenue. NBC, Peacock and Telemundo carry it live. On Thanksgiving eve the balloons are inflated on the Upper West Side, around West 77th Street and up Columbus Avenue to West 81st Street, and the public can walk past them. Everyone enters through a security checkpoint at West 72nd Street and Columbus Avenue. The floats are assembled just north, on Central Park West between West 81st and West 86th Streets.
