Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks goes up over the rivers around Lower Manhattan on the night of July 4. Barges fire from the East River, the Hudson or both, and the setup changes from year to year. Some years the Brooklyn Bridge itself becomes part of the show. Most of the good views cost nothing. In recent years the city has given away free tickets by lottery for waterfront sections such as Brooklyn Bridge Park and the Seaport, and opened non-ticketed stretches of the FDR Drive in Lower Manhattan. The viewing areas are announced in the weeks before the Fourth, so check that year's map before you head down. NBC and Peacock carry the show for anyone watching from home.
