Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade
Northern Boulevard, Little Neck, NY 11362
About this happenin
On Memorial Day itself, a parade marches along Northern Boulevard through the Queens neighborhoods of Little Neck and Douglaston, a tradition that dates to 1927. In recent years it has stepped off at 2 p.m. from Jayson Avenue, just over the city line in Great Neck. Veterans and active-duty service members march with student bands, scouts, ROTC units and neighborhood groups, and thousands of people line the boulevard to watch. An interfaith service at Zion Episcopal Church opens the morning, followed by a wreath-laying at Monument Park. Veterans then sit down to breakfast at Father Smith Hall before the march. A nonprofit parade organization runs the day with American Legion Post 103, and it has long held an art and essay contest for local schools.
