Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in New York
17 Ederle Promenade, Forest Hills, NY 11375
About this happenin
Two days of dragon boat racing fill Meadow Lake in Flushing Meadows Corona Park every August, with more than 120 teams paddling in from across North America. Races start at 9 a.m. and run into the early evening on both days, in open, youth, charity and corporate classes. Off the water, a main stage runs live music and martial arts demonstrations, and an international food court sells snacks and meals. The festival began in 1990 on the Hudson River at Battery Park City, organized that first year by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office. Admission is free, rain or shine, and special MTA shuttle buses have run from the Mets-Willets Point subway station on festival days.
