About this happenin
For close to three weeks every November, starting in the second week of the month, DOC NYC fills three Manhattan neighborhoods with documentaries. The IFC Center, on Sixth Avenue at West 3rd Street in Greenwich Village, is the main location. More screenings are at Village East by Angelika on Second Avenue and at the SVA Theatre on West 23rd Street in Chelsea. Recent programs have passed 200 films, with a US competition, an international one, a Metropolis competition and a shorts competition. The winner of the shorts Grand Jury Prize qualifies for the Academy Awards without the usual theatrical run. Pass holders get a festival lounge at Bar Veloce, and an online pass covers the festival's virtual platform for anyone who can't get downtown. Filmmakers have their own conference, DOC NYC PRO, at Village East by Angelika.
More in November: 10 other New York events.
