About this happenin
Movie Nights puts a free film on a big screen on the Lawn in Bryant Park every summer Monday. The park has run Movie Nights for more than 30 years. The gravel paths open at 4 p.m., the lawn at 5 (weather permitting) and the film starts at 8, so most people come early with a picnic. Hester Street Fair vendors sell food on the Fountain Terrace from 4 to 8:30 p.m., and beer and wine are sold at the west end of the lawn from 5. Captions run on every film. Chairs and tables are not allowed on the lawn, and neither are plastic ground coverings or dogs. If it rains the film goes on but the lawn closes, and people watch from the gravel paths around it. Thunderstorms can delay or cancel a screening, and the park makes that call on the day. On four summer Thursdays the same lawn hosts Broadway in Bryant Park, a free lunchtime hour of songs from shows on and off Broadway, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
