The Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is BAM's free celebration on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, held in the Howard Gilman Opera House at 30 Lafayette Avenue in Brooklyn. BAM calls it the largest and longest running public celebration of Dr. King in New York City. The day centers on a keynote speaker and live music, with neighbors and civic leaders in the room, and BAMkids runs activities for families. Some years add a free film at BAM Rose Cinemas or a choir singing on the steps of the Peter Jay Sharp Building. Admission costs nothing. Tickets go out first come, first served from 8 a.m. in the opera house lobby on the day, and an RSVP does not hold a seat. BAM provides ASL interpretation.
