Words & Music Festival

About this happenin

The former St. Rose de Lima Catholic Church, now the André Cailloux Center for Performing Arts and Cultural Justice at 2541 Bayou Road in New Orleans, hosts the four-day literary festival Words & Music. One Book One New Orleans runs it, and the proceeds go to the group's adult literacy outreach and free public programming. The Faulkner Society created the festival in 1997 and ran it for 20 years before giving it up. Past schedules have run Wednesday through Saturday in the middle of November. The doors opened at noon with a lunchtime reading, then panels and workshops ran into the evening, with writers and musicians sharing the stage. Donations are preferred over ticket sales, so nobody is turned away for lack of money.

More in November: 11 other New Orleans events.
