About this happenin
The Tennessee Williams & New Orleans Literary Festival takes over the French Quarter for five days each March, with Hotel Monteleone on Royal Street as its hub. The dates are set near Williams's birthday on March 26 and shift to avoid Easter Sunday. Its Stella Shouting Contest has you bellow Stanley Kowalski's cry from A Streetcar Named Desire, and it raises money for the New Orleans Family Justice Center. Most of the daytime program is panels in the hotel's ballroom and salons, where authors and scholars talk about Williams and about the work of writing. Single panels have cost $10 and writer's craft sessions $25. Walking tours and staged plays are ticketed separately, a LitPass or VIP Pass covers many sessions, and some events are free. The Scholars Conference meets at the Historic New Orleans Collection on Chartres Street. Saints & Sinners, an LGBTQ+ literary festival, runs the same weekend.
More in March: 14 other New Orleans events.
