About this happenin
Jefferson Parish celebrates the Fourth of July a day early, on July 3, with Uncle Sam Jam in the Concert Meadow at Lafreniere Park in Metairie. It began more than thirty years ago as a small concert in the meadow and now draws thousands, with national touring acts on the stage. Gates open mid-afternoon, local food vendors work the park, and the music carries on into the evening until the fireworks go up around 9 p.m. Admission is free. Parking inside the grounds has been $20 a vehicle, and cars can also park free at the Shrine on Airline and ride a shuttle in. Bring a soft folding chair or a blanket. Bags are screened at the gate, and drones, coolers, outside food and drinks, glass and pets are not allowed. A $100 Stars & Stripes pass adds four wristbands along with a private bar and an air-conditioned tent.
More in July: 3 other New Orleans events.
