Oak Street Po-Boy Festival
8100-8700 blocks of Oak Street, New Orleans, LA 70118
About this happenin
A Sunday in November turns the 8100 to 8700 blocks of Oak Street in Carrollton, New Orleans, into a po-boy crawl: the organizers count over 100 takes on the sandwich, and you need a wristband to buy one. Entry is free, and a wristband bought ahead costs less than one bought on the day. Hours are 10 am to 6 pm. About 40 food and drink vendors take part, and celebrity judges pick winners by category. An opening parade starts the day, and bands play on several stages. There are game watch areas for football, an arts market, a kids zone and a quiet area for a break from the noise. Crowds are estimated at upwards of 50,000, so come by Uber, Lyft, the St. Charles streetcar or the RTA 32 bus rather than driving into a residential neighborhood. The Oak Street Merchants, Residents and Property Owners have produced it since 2007, and a share of proceeds supports Son of a Saint, a mentoring nonprofit for fatherless boys.
