The New Orleans Wine & Food Experience (NOWFE) runs a week of wine events each June, anchored by two big public tastings at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Friday night brings the Tournament of Rosés, the louder of the two: rosé, still and sparkling, from several continents, plus a DJ and a cocktail garden, with bites from local restaurants. The Grand Tasting on Saturday afternoon is the calmer one. It pairs wines from around the world with food from New Orleans chefs, and you can meet the winemakers at their tables. The rest of the week runs smaller, with wine dinners and hands-on labs on subjects like blending. An award named for Ella Brennan goes out each year for a lifetime in New Orleans hospitality. Tickets are sold event by event, and prices change from year to year. The proceeds go to local nonprofits, from food banks to culinary schools, and the festival says it has raised more than $1.5 million.
