About this happenin

At Beignet Fest, vendors fry beignets every way they can dream up, boudin and spicy chicken among them, on the Festival Grounds in New Orleans City Park. Visitors vote for a Best Beignet in each of the Traditional, Sweet and Savory categories, and a panel of judges picks its own favorite. Local bands play through the day, an artist market sits among the booths, and the Kids Village has sensory-friendly activities. Advance tickets cost less than the gate, and children 10 and under get in free with an adult. Bring a card and a chair or blanket. Pets stay home, though service animals are welcome. Parking in City Park is free but not on the grass, where police ticket and tow, and the red Canal Street streetcar runs to the park's grand entrance. It goes ahead rain or shine unless torrential rain is forecast, when it moves to another date. Amy and Sherwood Collins started it in 2016. The money goes through the Beignet Fest Foundation to autism programs in Greater New Orleans, including Camp Benny and sensory spaces.
