About this happenin
A real ice rink and ice slides fill Halls G through I of the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, from the days before Christmas into early January. The rink is the Big Freezy, and the Polar Pub overlooks it, so a parent can watch with a Christmas cocktail while the kids have Elf Juice. Slide riders go one to a tube. Add a carousel, a swing ride called the Yuletide YoYo, nine-hole mini golf and a life-sized gingerbread house for photos. One ticket covers skating and every ride, skates included. Entry is by timed session, most of them about four and a half hours, and there is no re-entry. Tickets are online only, and everyone age 2 and up needs one. Anyone under 18 comes with an adult, one adult 21 or older for every six children. Park in Lot F off 400 Calliope Street, which is also the address for rideshare drivers. Every ride posts a minimum height. Vixen's View, the gondola, holds four adults to a car and goes 50 feet up.
More in December: 10 other New Orleans events.
