French Quarter residents open their Christmas-decorated homes to ticket holders for a self-guided walking tour on a Sunday in December. Patio Planters of the Vieux Carré sells a limited number of tickets to keep the disruption in the homes down. Hours run noon to 4 p.m. Online tickets usually go on sale in November, and you collect them in the Cabildo alcove at 701 Chartres Street, on Jackson Square, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on tour day. Whatever is left sells at the same alcove that day. The organiser posts 3D scans of past tours, and in one a dining table is laid with teacups under a crystal chandelier.
