About this happenin

Thanksgiving morning in New Orleans starts with the NOAC Turkey Day Race, five miles through City Park that finish inside Tad Gormley Stadium. More than 3,500 people run it, some in turkey tutus. The kids' half-mile goes off at 8 a.m. and the 5-miler at 8:30, with awards at 10. Proceeds go to Spina Bifida of Louisiana, and dogs stay home. The New Orleans Athletic Club's race dates to 1907, one of the oldest non-marathon races in the United States. Barbara Gorrondona entered in 1969 as the first woman, against 102 men, and Alicia Sabi won it the next year at 16. Albert Briede ran his 50th in a row in 2008.

More in November: 11 other New Orleans events.
