Midsummer Mardi Gras

About this happenin
Decorated golf carts stand in for floats at Midsummer Mardi Gras, the Krewe of O.A.K.'s late-summer parade in Carrollton, which starts and ends at the Maple Leaf Bar, 8316 Oak Street. Some of the carts carry oversized heads of neighborhood characters. Everything else is on foot: costumed marching krewes and brass bands. The krewe also rolls on the Friday night before Mardi Gras Day. This one rolls on the evening of a Saturday in late August, and costumes are strongly encouraged. In past years the parade, free to watch, went up Carrollton Avenue to Palmer Park and back down to Oak Street for the party at the bar. The RTA cut the St. Charles streetcar short at Riverbend that night and detoured two bus lines, so plan on walking in.
