Krewe of Muses Parade
Magazine Street and Jefferson Avenue (start of route), New Orleans, LA 70115
About this happenin
The signature throw of the Krewe of Muses is a hand-decorated, glittered high-heeled shoe, and the krewe parades Uptown in New Orleans on the Thursday night before Carnival's final weekend. Members call the night tHERsday. Muses was the first all-female krewe to parade at night Uptown, and it has paraded since 2001. The route is free to watch. It starts at Magazine Street and Jefferson Avenue, turns onto Napoleon Avenue, follows St. Charles Avenue past Harmony Circle and finishes on Tchoupitoulas Street after turning at Canal. The krewe's site has the start time and a gallery of past shoes. Floats take on the year's news with satire, and one shoe-shaped float carries that year's Honorary Muse. Besides the shoes, the krewe throws cloisonné pins and reusable pieces it calls ReMUSEable throws. The Sirens float always comes last, down the avenue on a cloud of smoke.
