About this happenin
The Krewe of Endymion, one of Carnival's three Super Krewes, rolls its parade down the Mid-City route from Orleans Avenue near City Park Avenue on the Saturday before Fat Tuesday and ends inside the Superdome. At over 300 feet long with nine sections, its float Pontchartrain Beach, Then and Now is the longest in Mardi Gras. The day opens with Samedi Gras, a block party on Orleans Avenue with local bands, and the parade follows late in the afternoon. The krewe first rode in 1967 and now puts upwards of 3,000 riders on 37 floats, many of them tandem units, so the parade runs on more than 80 chassis. That makes it the largest parade in Mardi Gras. The krewe sells tickets only for the Endymion Extravaganza, the formal after-party in the Superdome. More than a million people watch, standing 25 to 35 deep on both sides, and some stake out their spot days ahead.
