Louisiana Irish-Italian Parade
Veterans Memorial Blvd at Houma Blvd, Metairie, LA 70006
About this happenin
The Louisiana Irish-Italian Parade rolls down Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Metairie at noon on the Sunday after St. Patrick's Day, free to watch along a route that starts at Houma Boulevard and ends at Martin Behrman Drive. Parking fills quickly, so get a spot early. The parish suggests public transit or a rideshare. Two friends began it in 1983: Henry Hoff, an Italian-American, and Eddie Renton Sr., an Irish-American. One grand marshal is Irish, the other Italian. Jefferson Parish tourism puts the crowd in the hundreds of thousands. More than 120 units go by, including floats, decorated trucks, marching groups and dance troupes. Riders throw beads and also food, such as cabbages and carrots.
More in March: 14 other New Orleans events.
