Irish Channel St. Patrick's Day Parade
Magazine Street at Jackson Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70130
About this happenin
The Irish Channel St. Patrick's Day Club, formed in 1947, parades through its own Irish Channel neighborhood in New Orleans on the Saturday before March 17. Hundreds of men in tuxedos walk the route, throw cabbages and beads, and hand out flowers to people along the curb. A noon Mass at St. Mary's Church on Josephine Street comes first, and the parade steps off at 1 p.m. The loop runs along Jackson Avenue, St. Charles Avenue, Louisiana Avenue and Magazine Street. On March 17 itself the club holds a block party at Annunciation Playground, 800 Race Street, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Proceeds go to St. Michael Special School.
More in March: 14 other New Orleans events.
