Second Line Parade Season
Neighborhood streets, New Orleans, LA (no single venue; routes vary by parade and are posted by WWOZ at wwoz.org/streets)
About this happenin
From late August into June, most Sundays, a social aid and pleasure club walks a second line parade through a New Orleans neighborhood. The members dress alike and a brass band plays out front. Anyone who wants to joins in behind and dances. Parades run about four hours, with start times around noon or 1 p.m. Each club has its own route, usually Uptown or Downtown, with the occasional Westbank parade. WWOZ 90.7 FM publishes the full season schedule each August, then posts a route sheet in the days before each parade at wwoz.org/streets. Dates and routes change, so the route sheet is the one to trust. Some Sundays have no parade, including the Jazz Fest weekends.
