Every December, French Quarter Festivals, Inc. fills St. Louis Cathedral, 615 Pere Antoine Alley beside Jackson Square, with free evening concerts under the name Holidays New Orleans Style, then closes the month with a free New Year's Eve party on the riverfront. The cathedral series opens on a Wednesday evening early in the month, with a Christmas concert a few days before the 25th. Shows have started at 6 p.m. Local musicians in jazz, classical, gospel and pop fill the program, and John Boutté and BeauSoleil's Michael Doucet have both played it. The Reveillon dinners and hotel discounts that share the season are separate offers from restaurants and hotels. New Orleans Eve closes the month at Woldenberg Park on the Mississippi riverfront, December 31 from 9 p.m. to midnight. Local bands play until a fleur-de-lis drops at midnight, and the Crescent City Countdown fireworks go up over the Mississippi.
