Los Isleños Christmas and Bonfire
1357 Bayou Rd, St. Bernard, LA 70085
About this happenin
Local school groups perform and sing Christmas songs at the Los Isleños Museum Complex, 1357 Bayou Road in St. Bernard, and once they finish a bonfire is lit. The Los Isleños Heritage and Cultural Society runs the evening, and in recent years it has landed on the first Saturday of December. The historic buildings are decorated for the season and you can walk the grounds among them. The village sits on 22 acres, and its oldest buildings date to the Spanish colonial era, when settlers from the Canary Islands came to Bayou Terre-aux-Boeufs between 1779 and 1783. Hot dogs, chili, jambalaya and nachos with cheese are sold, along with drinks and water. Hot chocolate and apple cider are free, and so are the cookies. Santa on the Bayou usually follows the next Saturday on the same grounds.
More in December: 10 other New Orleans events.
