Songkran at Wat Thai of Los Angeles
8225 Coldwater Canyon Ave, North Hollywood, CA 91605
About this happenin
Songkran is the largest gathering of the year at Wat Thai of Los Angeles, by the temple's own account. The Thai Buddhist temple on Coldwater Canyon Avenue in North Hollywood holds it over a weekend in mid-April, built around the Thai New Year water blessings and merit-making, with cultural performances and live music on the grounds. The weekend food court, where community vendors sell boat noodles and mango sticky rice every Saturday and Sunday, becomes the temple food fair. Parking on the grounds is free, and the 170 and 101 freeways are close. Wat Thai began in 1971 in a converted house on Sepulveda Boulevard and moved to North Hollywood a year later. It describes itself as the largest Thai Buddhist temple in the United States.
