About this happenin
Gregg Schwenk and Todd Quartararo started the Newport Beach Film Festival in 1999, and it still runs as a nonprofit, for eight days every October. Screenings are spread across theaters in town, THE LOT at Fashion Island among them. The organiser puts the program at more than 300 features and shorts and says attendance has passed 56,000. Every screening is open to the public. The opening and closing night galas and the after-parties are 21 and over. Some strands have run a long time: action sports films since 2005, culinary films since 2018. Through the community outreach program, more than 40 nonprofits are each paired with a film that fits their cause. Conversations with filmmakers and artists run alongside the screenings.
More in October: 18 other Los Angeles events.
