About this happenin
Most screenings at the Los Angeles Jewish Film Festival end with a talk-back, led by the filmmakers or by scholars and other guests. The films deal with the Jewish experience, and they play at theaters around the city, among them Laemmle's Royal on Santa Monica Boulevard in West LA. The venue list shifts from year to year. Recent runs have also used Laemmle's theaters in Santa Monica and Encino and the Museum of Tolerance on Pico. Opening night has been a red carpet screening at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, with a dessert reception afterwards. The first festival, in 2006, sold about 2,500 tickets for 20 films over six days. JFilmLA, a nonprofit, runs it. A regular screening cost $16 last time, and opening night cost more.
