About this happenin
A short that wins at LALIFF goes straight into Oscar consideration. The Academy made the festival a qualifier in late 2024 for its Best U.S. Latino Live Action Short and Best U.S. Latino Animated Short awards, and a Best Feature Film award now sits beside them. Edward James Olmos founded the festival in 1997. The Latino Film Institute runs it at the TCL Chinese Theatres on Hollywood Boulevard over five days in late May, selling ticket bundles and an All Access Pass alongside single screenings. Producers and financiers come for LALIFF Connect, a market and creative forum. The same days bring a comedy night and a showcase of short films made by students in the Youth Cinema Project.
More in May: 12 other Los Angeles events.
