Anime Expo
1201 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles, CA 90015
Across Figueroa Street from the Convention Center, the Moxy is two minutes from the halls. Anime Expo week is one of the hardest times of the year to get a last-minute room at the downtown LA hotels.
About this happenin
Anime Expo fills the Los Angeles Convention Center, at 1201 South Figueroa Street, with four days of anime and Japanese pop culture over the Fourth of July weekend. It began in 1991 as Anime Con, started by members of a UC Berkeley anime club at the Red Lion Inn in San Jose. The nonprofit SPJA runs it now. The show moved to this convention center in 2008, and attendance passed 100,000 in 2016. The exhibit hall covers more than 340,000 square feet. In Artist Alley, amateur and semi-professional artists sell prints and handmade work. Voice actors and anime directors sign at autograph sessions. Concerts, anime premieres, a gaming hall and the cosplay Masquerade fill the schedule, with a beer garden and an outdoor food market for breaks. Everyone needs a badge to get in, and the Masquerade and the Maid Cafe each take a separate ticket.
More in July: 9 other Los Angeles events.
