About this happenin
Houston's MLK Unity Parade runs through downtown on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The City of Houston presents it with the Black Heritage Society and the MLK Grande Parade, two groups that each ran a King Day parade of their own. The Black Heritage Society held the first one on January 21, 1978, with Martin Luther King Sr. as its grand marshal. The society lists the start at Smith and McKinney Streets, near City Hall, at 10 a.m. Kroger, the parade's community partner, sets up tents along the route with complimentary coffee and hot chocolate, and a festival goes with the parade on the day.
