Fort Bend County Fair and Rodeo
4310 Hwy 36 S, Rosenberg, TX 77471
About this happenin
Fort Bend County has held a fair since October 1933, missing only the World War II years. It now runs ten days in late September and early October at the fairgrounds on Highway 36 South in Rosenberg, just south of U.S. 59, with a PRCA rodeo. The nonprofit Fort Bend County Fair Association runs it for the county's young people, and its scholarship program, started in 1979, has awarded more than 1,000 scholarships to Fort Bend students. A parade of more than 200 entries opens the fair, winding from the Historic Court House in Richmond west along Highway 90-A to Millie Street in Rosenberg. The PRCA rodeo takes the O.D. Tucker Arena for four days, alongside a ranch rodeo, and mutton bustin' puts children aged 4 to 7 on a sheep for an eight-second ride. The children's schedule also has a diaper derby, a stick horse rodeo, a pet show and a tractor pull, and there are lawn tractor races. The carnival midway opens every night, and concerts play on the Brazos Stage. The Championship BBQ Cook-Off takes over the fairgrounds the weekend before the fair opens.
More in September: 4 other Houston events.
