Black cowboys and cowgirls compete for cash prizes at the Texas Black Invitational Rodeo, one night each summer at the Fair Park Coliseum in Dallas. The African American Museum, Dallas presents it, and the proceeds go to the museum. The card runs through bronc and bull riding, calf and steer roping, barrel racing and a Pony Express relay race. The museum's sponsor packet adds bareback riding and a junior roping and barrel racing event. Cleo Hearn, the National Rodeo Hall of Famer the museum calls Mr. Black Rodeo, produced the first one. The most recent rodeo sold out the coliseum with nearly 8,000 people, and tickets go early.
More in July: 5 other Dallas-Fort Worth events.
