BMW Dallas Marathon

About this happenin

Tens of thousands of spectators line the streets of Dallas on the second Sunday of December for the BMW Dallas Marathon, the official marathon of the City of Dallas and the longest-running marathon in Texas. The nonprofit behind it, the Dallas White Rock Marathon, dates to 1971. Race weekend runs Friday to Sunday and offers 12 event distances. Besides the marathon there is a half marathon, a 50K ultra, a five-person relay, a 10K, a 5K, a 5K Team Challenge, the Friday Night Lights Mile and kids' races. The courses pass the city's landmarks and run through its neighborhoods, and recent races have finished at Dallas City Hall. The organiser calls race day the largest single-day sporting event in Dallas. Scottish Rite for Children has been the main beneficiary since 1997 and has received nearly $5 million.

More in December: 13 other Dallas-Fort Worth events.
