About this happenin
The Tarrant County Harambee Festival is a free festival of Black history and culture at the William M. McDonald YMCA, 2701 Moresby Street, in southeast Fort Worth. Harambee means "all pull together" in Swahili. The Tarrant County Black Historical and Genealogical Society presents it, traditionally on the first Saturday in October, and counts more than 5,000 people across the two days. Deborah Tate-Lewis conceived it in 2008 to draw attention to the Evans Avenue Plaza and the Terrell Heights community, and the first festival followed in 2010. Saturday's program includes a parade, a health fair, a poetry slam, live music, vendors and a Kidz Zone with water slides and an obstacle course. Adults can come the Friday night before for the Seafood, Chicken and Blues.
More in October: 17 other Dallas-Fort Worth events.
