Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering & Western Swing Festival
121 E Exchange Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76164
About this happenin
Ranch rodeo, chuck wagons, cowboy poetry and Western swing fill the Fort Worth Stockyards for one weekend each October at the Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering. A group of cowboys founded it at Cowtown Coliseum in 1991, and the Texas A&M Extension service produced the first ones. Chuck wagon teams cook with the ingredients and methods of 1880. In the ranch rodeo, cowboys compete as teams in events built on everyday ranch work. Poets and songwriters who draw on their own ranching lives perform at the RFD-TV Studio. On Saturday night the Western Swing Festival, with Red Steagall on the bill, turns Cowtown Coliseum into a dance hall. Kids get a fiddle contest and a chuck wagon cook-off of their own, and Cowboy Church opens Sunday morning. The ranch rodeo and the swing festival take tickets. So do the daytime music and poetry shows.
More in October: 17 other Dallas-Fort Worth events.
