Thanksgiving weekend in Historic Downtown McKinney is Home for the Holidays, a free festival on the square that runs all three days. It opens on Friday evening, when a real Christmas tree is lit in the middle of downtown. A Ferris wheel turns over the decorated square, there is a classic carousel, and Santa is around. Live Christmas music plays across the district, and kids get Snow Hill, train rides and a petting zoo. Saturday is Small Business Saturday, with more than 180 local shops and restaurants open. Select rides and attractions are the only things that cost money.
