Denton Holiday Lighting Festival

About this happenin

On a Saturday in early December, the Denton Holiday Lighting Festival fills Quakertown Park in Downtown Denton with a free afternoon and evening. It began in 1988, when the Denton Holiday Festival Association raised money to light the trees on the Courthouse-on-the-Square lawn. The nonprofit association still runs it, and the Denton Community Band has played at it from the start. The tree is lit at sunset. Families get photos with Santa, make crafts with Mrs. Claus, ride a trackless train and take a run down the snow hill, while choirs, bands and dancers perform. Illuminated tunnels and photo spots, a vendor market and food trucks fill the park, and the Holly Jolly Trolley moves people around downtown. A paid VIP package adds a wristband pass, a t-shirt and an ornament.

More in December: 13 other Dallas-Fort Worth events.
