About this happenin
Jazz anchors the Denton Arts & Jazz Festival, a September weekend at the North Texas Fairgrounds in Denton with five outdoor stages of continuous music and art and craft booths and food courts in between. It was founded on the belief that all forms of art should be free to the public, and the Denton Festival Foundation, which produces it, puts the money from booth rentals and concessions back into the arts around the city. Many of the musicians come out of the University of North Texas jazz program, and the bill reaches into folk, blues, country, rock, Tejano, conjunto and polka. Community stages give dance, choral, drama and band groups from across North Texas their turn, and kids get their own art area. Leave pets at home (service dogs only), and don’t bring a cooler into the jazz area. The festival bills itself as free, though its site also sells tickets for Friday and Saturday.
More in September: 12 other Dallas-Fort Worth events.
